Cheers!

Yesterday was my birthday and I’m still celebrating! This is another card I’m entering in Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge.

For this card, I picked Newton’s New Year stamp set and dies. For coloring the image, I used Copic Sketch Markers. I used black glitter paper and foam tape to make the image pop. I think I’m ready for some champagne! Cheers!

Magical Friend Card

I recently placed an order to Hero Arts and bought this pretty die. I thought it would make a quick and simple card. I’m always in need of birthday cards, so I decided to try it out. First, I cut the die from Tonic Studios Black Velvet Mirror Card stock. If you haven’t tried this paper out, you need to! It has a gorgeous matte finish and feels almost velvety to the touch. I love it and I like how nicely it works with the die.

Next, I used a smooth card stock to create my background. img_6474

I started in the middle of my paper with Stormy Sky Distress Oxide ink. Then I blended in Seedless Preserves and finally, Black Soot. To give a little sparkle, I spritzed some shimmer spray.

Next, I glued my silhouette using my favorite glue “Art Glitter Designer Adhesive”. It is perfect for little spaces and dries clear. After I glued my parts together, I stamped the sentiment from Unity Stamps Cuddlebug Dragon set, with Ink on 3 Blackout Ink. Because it was stamped over the oxide ink, it appears grey…and I like that look.

This card really didn’t take long from start to finish. I hope you like it!

Flip Flop Kind of Day

Here is my entry to the Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge. This biweekly theme is a sketch challenge. For this card I used the Flip Flop Life stamp set. I had to fussy cut my flip flops because I don’t have the dies. That was a little challenging for me! I decided to add some Glossy Accents to the strap of the sandal and foam tape to the bottom to give some dimension.

I was at my friend Avra’s house on Thursday, and borrowed her Seashells Stencil to make some background paper. I used some distress oxide inks and I was really pleased with my color palette (Scattered Straw, Iced Spruce and Tattered Rose) It was so pretty, I hated to cut it!

My goal was to create the diamond shape with the placement of the flip flops… was I successful? Not sure, but I had fun creating this card.

Thanks for stopping by my new blog!

Today’s the Day

red-let-ter day , noun

a day that is pleasantly noteworthy  or memorable. In the past, special days would be marked on the calendar in red.

Welcome to my blog! I wanted to explain to you why I chose the name “red letter day’. Obviously, I love the meaning of the phrase. I like to think that making cards helps add to memorable days. I love making cards. My craft room is my happy place. The other reason I selected this name is because it reminds me of my mother; I called her “Red”. Her actual name was Mary and so is mine…when people would call our house and ask for “Mary” we would say “Do you want Big Mary or Little Mary?” I felt like that was awful for my mom – so I called her Red.  Ironically, red is not one of my favorite colors. But is was the color of my mom’s hair and mine when we were younger.

Now for the disclaimer… I am not a writer. In fact, I’m a terrible writer! Hopefully I can get my daughter to edit this for me.  Please visit again and let’s talk cards!
